My favorite quote from today's class "you have to go down to raise up".
I always think of quote unquote "down" as negative. I mean it's such a terrible place to be in my minds eye before today and somewhere I never want to be. I think in terms always as "up up up". I carry this idea into everything I do. Be better, do better no time to breath just strive more forward keep going get up up up.
Today's statement really opened my eyes in a different way. It is so simple and I am sure I have heard it a thousand times before but thought "yeah yeah - whatever; I don't have time to listen to that logic - I am trying to get up there somewhere". But today we had to try something I want you to try it too.
Stand with your feet pressed into the floor. Just stand, now try jumping into the air without bending your ankles or you knees.
Doesn't work now does it. So today, amongst everything else I learned, I am conscience of how I need to wrap my head around the thought that "down" is a necessary step on the path of getting to where to need to go. Trying to skip it is just as relevant as trying to get through yoga poses without breathing. You have to go down to raise up.
Another cute expression from today was in Rae's class where she said "ears and shoulders don't make good neighbors so lets keep them apart" Love it :P so stealing that one!
We learned all about the body today in class with anatomy. Anatomy and sciences are not my strongest subjects but when relating it to yoga it is SO important to know in order to prevent injuries and work with people who have certain injuries. I need to study all of this though a lot 'cas my memory needs to just be able to click with all of it.
We also learned how to adjust people in several yoga poses for their alignment which was very helpful and informative.
Tonight I would like to get more work done from the book. I also need to go for some cardio in the gym 'cas all the yoga is great but I need some balance in my workouts. A 30 min run - perfect!
To those of you who think that "ya yippee Tara" for doing this yoga training, THANK YOU I am blessed for your support and love. For those of you who wonder if you can get into yoga watch this youtube video for inspiration:

ps: still working on my mayurasan (peacock pose). Feel out of it a couple times today but baby steps and I will get it. I think it is a much easier pose for men then women. We have boobs.
